The young, daring and driven are invited to apply to Trans Europe Halles’ free 9 month mentoring programme ‘Duct tape and Dreams’ (running February - October 2023).

Running a space for art and culture is never easy but can be especially challenging in the first years. Our ideas and passion often clash against tough reality and bureaucratic hustle. All we wish for is some guidance, a roadmap on how to navigate those exciting and challenging years and secure a more sustainable future for our centres!

Duct Tape and Dreams is a hands-on mentoring and capacity building programme for emerging artistic collectives. It brings young and committed creatives on a nine-month developmental journey, providing them with necessary tools and expertise to build a sustainable future in the independent cultural sector.

All participants will get tailored expert coaching throughout the whole programme and access to TEH’s capacity building activities, an opportunity to peer learn and attend the TEH conference in Leipzig with 350+ creatives, and a chance to win the newly initiated Philippe Grombeer Award, which includes a cash prize of 5000 euro and mobility support to attend a TEH Camp Meeting in Tbilisi in Oct 2023.

To all participants in the mentoring programme, TEH offers:

Tailored coaching from a peer organisation who has gone through the same process in the past and has similar interests.
A possibility to have a curated workshop at your centre based on your needs.
Travel support to visit the mentor’s centre to gain hands-on experience and knowledge.
Visibility through a programme publication featuring all participants.
Travel and accommodation support to attend the TEH conference in Leipzig with 350+ creatives.
Access to a vibrant and diverse community of like-minded kick starters from across Europe and beyond.

Trans Europe Halles: Senior Project Manager / Researcher (Sweden)

Trans Europe Halles is looking for a senior project manager / researcher to lead the Creative Europe ‘Cultural Transformation Movement’ project (Jan 2023 - Jan 2027).

Co-financed by the European Commission and led by the network Trans Europe Halles (TEH), The Cultural Transformation Movement Project (CTMP) is a four-year process that aims to diversify artistic production and its destination – starting from within the organisation itself. This will be achieved through generating and implementing strategies and methodologies of cultural management and creation processes developed with/by underrepresented communities (URCs). The project is led by TEH with its four members who are multidisciplinary art centres from Ukraine, Italy, Belgium and Austria. This project researches and examines two dimensions, one within and the other around the partner centres/organisations. It also questions the relationship between just art-making, policymaking, the context, and the resulting art forms.

The Cultural Transformation Movement project (CTMP) is the first project of the Cultural Transformation Movement (CTM). The movement is a larger working group of TEH members who are investing in the topics of social and spatial justice, and who have the ambition to reduce inequalities and inspire the European cultural sector on how to transform the organisations from within, in equal partnership with the under-represented communities around them.

CTMP is a key strategic project for TEH and its success will determine a crucial area of work for the network: social and spatial sustainability.

As the project manager of the Cultural Transformation Movement Project (CTMP), you will:

Be responsible for the successful delivery of the CTMP
Develop and manage a detailed project plan in cooperation with the consortium.
Coordinate the CTMP consortium.
Be responsible for the quality control of all project deliverables submitted by the consortium members and other project stakeholders.
Collaborate with the TEH financial team to develop and submit the required technical and financial reports to the project.
Manage the project expenses and report to the financial manager, as well as coordinate with the project manager and financial managers of the partners.

In addition the you will be expected to:

Coordinate the CTM activities and co-produce public events and workshops with the CTM members.
Develop TEH’s relationship with the academic sector, be updated on the relevant academic literature on topics of social justice, spatial justice, Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) and relevant issues.
Understand the issues relevant to underrepresented communities and show a strong commitment to developing their active participation in our network.

This is a four-year full-time position, based in Sweden with flexibility of 50% remote work. Start date is 1 February 2023, and gross salary is 31,250 SEK.

Trans Europe Halles: International Resource Office Project Manager (Sweden)

Trans Europe Halles (TEH) is a pan European network with more than 140 members in 40 European countries in every part of the continent initiated by citizens and artists.

TEH is now looking for a motivated Project Manager to join its international team in Lund, Sweden, starting on 9 January 2023 (replacement parental leave 1.5 year).

The post-holder will work closely with the Director of Strategic Development and the Managing Director in developing and implementing the local and regional development strategy of Trans Europe Halles in Sweden and Scandinavia; and inform, assist and connect Swedish stakeholders with European initiatives and funding opportunities.

The role will be an entry point to TEH for the local and regional partners, and will be expected to develop and nurture excellent relations with TEH’s Swedish funders and partners in particular, and expand the network’s activities in the Nordic region by coordinating the TEH Nordic Hub.

The salary for the position is 28,000 SEK.

Trans Europe Halles: Marketing and Communications Director (Sweden)

Trans Europe Halles (TEH) is an international network with more than 140 members in 40 countries, initiated by citizens and artists. 

They have been at the forefront of repurposing industrial and commercial buildings for arts, culture and community uses since 1983. TEH members are multidisciplinary spaces that combine artistic and social activities, as they believe that arts and culture have the power to transform people, spaces and societies.  

The coordination team consists of 11 skilled and motivated people from different professional backgrounds and origins (Europe, Asia, Middle East and Africa), and a long record of international experience. TEH’s communication language is English. 

Reporting to the Managing Director, the Marketing and Communications Director plays a key role in setting the strategy and promoting the Trans Europe Halles new brand. As member of TEH senior leadership team, the MARCOM Director is the custodian of the network’s new brand and voice. They are responsible for developing, in consultation with the leadership team, the institutional marketing and communications plans to support the achievement of strategic objectives.

The MARCOM Director manages external creative and PR agencies and ensures the execution of the institutional plan through these partners. They provide recommendations to the Managing Director on the enhancement of the network’s reputation and visibility, manages related internal and external issues, and ensures that all the activities of the network benefit from sufficient and appropriate exposure. The MARCOM Director also manages one communications manager, and 2 EU volunteers and works collaboratively with peers in all departments.

Salary: 37,000 SEK/month (brut). Please note that this position requires the MARCOM Director to work a minimum of 115 working days per year on site at TEH’s Lund office in Sweden. All candidates will be required to show proof of their legal ability to live and work in Sweden (TEH cannot sponsor visas for non-EU citizens) and must be willing to relocate. Trans Europe Halles has flexible remote work policies.

Trans Europe Halles is looking for a senior international project manager to lead the Creative Europe project Rebuilding to Last (2022-2024).

Co-financed by the European Commission and led by the network Trans Europe Halles (TEH), Rebuilding to Last is a two-year, 16 partner organisation and 1.4 million euro project aiming to build the capacity of non-governmental cultural spaces to address the sustainable futures of their buildings and organisations.

Rebuilding to Last is a key strategic pilot project for Trans Europe Halles. Its success will determine a crucial area of work for the network: circular design and environmental sustainability. The position, therefore, requires a very experienced project manager who is daring to take on a challenging endeavour.

This is a two-year full-time (40 hours a week) appointment based in Lund, Sweden, with a salary of 31,250 SEK per month. Employment starts 1 April 2022.

SHIFT Cultural Leadership Annotated Bibliography

The main goal of this annotated bibliography is to explore the concept of Cultural Leadership by adopting a community oriented understanding. Going beyond the idea of the leader as the sole enactor of change, the project understands change as a transformational process that can be kickstarted by innovation entrepreneurs in touch with the organisational community.

As a collection of resources, the bibliography focuses on different dimensions of this understanding of cultural leadership. Leaders have to root their efforts of change not only in normative ideas and ideal states, but also in the analysis of the current state of their organisation. The collection presents ideas of what cultural leaders are and could be, but also introduces a series of methodological and analytical tools useful for understanding their organisations.

This annotated bibliography is by no means exhaustive and is rather meant as a guide.

This publication has been created by Trans Europe Halles and the SHIFT partner networks as output for the cultural leadership strand of the SHIFT project (Shared Initiatives for Training).

The Managing Director will lead on strategic development, financial, operational and HR management and organisational change, taking responsibility for the team in the delivery of TEH’s strategic objectives. They will also create and maintain the best possible conditions for TEH to thrive as a network and community.

The Managing Director will have demonstrable leadership and management experience, preferably in the arts or nonprofit sectors, ideally at an international level. The successful candidate will be passionate about the arts and international cooperation and committed to supporting TEH’s members and other independent actors running vibrant and impactful arts spaces across Europe.

This is a full-time position based in Lund, Sweden with a salary of 40,000 SEK per month. Employment starts July 2021 (negotiable).

The DISCE P2P Recovery Programme (hereinafter referred to as ‘PRP’) was initiated to support the European cultural and creative sectors in this time of unprecedented challenge due to COVID-19. It is organised by Trans Europe Halles (TEH) in the framework of the DISCE Project ‘Developing Sustainable and Inclusive Creative Economies’, funded by the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme.

PRP is designed to engage with stakeholders within Cultural and Creative Industries in Cyprus, Greece, Italy and Spain coherently with developing sustainable and inclusive creative economies in the EU. The main aim of PRP is to explore and to enable collaborative and innovative practices addressing challenges faced in the Cultural and Creative sectors in Europe due to COVID-19.

PRP is open to social, cultural and entrepreneurial businesses in the Cultural and Creative Industries, encouraging interaction between them, experts and academics, fostering organisational development and innovation among organisations that constitute Creative Economies of the EU

PRP will initially offer consultancy and matchmaking to participants. Selected participants will have the opportunity to present the preliminary results in an international online event, the Day of Creative Economies in the EU. They will also have the opportunity to meet in the PRP final event, the Co-Creation Lab. The Co-Creation Lab will be held in Nicosia, Cyprus, on 21-23 April 2021. Travel and accommodation expenses of the participants will be covered. Both events will involve experts, researchers, cultural and creative practitioners and policy-makers.

Trans Europe Halles > Online Cultural Leadership Course

Trans Europe Halles is launching a free online course, which is exclusively designed for network members, associates and TEH Startup Support Programme participants. Navigating through the Covid-19 crisis can be very tough, therefore TEH and their selected course coaches are here to provide support. Coaches will analyse your situation and will give you personalised advice and guidance on how to build resilience and perhaps even come out stronger on the other side of this storm.

The course is for members of Trans Europe Halles who resonate with any of the following questions:

Are you overwhelmed and exhausted by what’s expected of you and what’s happening in the world?
Do you feel like you are on the verge of a burnout and you want to prevent this from happening?
Do you want to be more resilient to situations of stress, paradoxes and tensions between people and organisations?
Do you feel like you are giving more than receiving, you are looking for more balance in your life?
Do you feel like you are capable of so much more, but you don’t know where or how to start?
Are you interested in becoming a more resilient leader?

Three coaches will each work with a group of 10 cultural leaders. The groups are limited to 10 participants in order to create a safe and personal environment.

The programme includes:

An initial group session, where you will get to know each other, and learn about each other’s situations and needs.
A one-on-one coaching session, where you will be able to personalise your work and analyse your own challenges.
A wrap-up group session, where you will be able to share your conclusions, discuss how you will integrate the learnings into your everyday life and learn from each other.
Each session will last approximately one hour.

The course will take place in June. The exact dates of the three sessions will be determined by you and your coach.
