Learning Trajectories handbooks are intended as a resource for any organisation that wishes to develop a professional development programme with the aim of helping live art workers to broaden their thinking, practices and networks beyond national borders.

The first handbook Designing professional development programmes with an international focus – authored by Katie Kheriji-Watts, Research and publications, On the Move – helps you focus on the process involved in designing – or redesigning – the best possible framework for individuals to experience creative, relational and business growth in an international context.

Our hope is that this ‘cookbook’ will be something that you can refer to repeatedly over the course of your own design process; that it will help you and your collaborators to guide your thinking and to ask yourselves pertinent questions. It is founded on extensive research about existing programmes in various countries and includes a selection of relevant examples. However, our aim is not to look backwards at what has already been done, but to help you look forward and build what’s to come.

Learning Trajectories handbooks are intended as a resource for any organisation that wishes to develop a professional development programme with the aim of helping live art workers to broaden their thinking, practices and networks beyond national borders.

The second document Establishing country resources and documentation for live art programmes seeks to provide some concrete advice and discussion points to international development programme organisers on how to create and circulate meaningful resources to participants to help them prepare for their mobility experience.

This handbook gives step-by-step guidance to help establish relevant documentation as part of the support material provided to participants and addresses critical points that should not be overlooked.

Learning Trajectories handbooks are intended as a resource for any organisation that wishes to develop a professional development programme with the aim of helping live art workers to broaden their thinking, practices and networks beyond national borders.

The third document Designing and intermediating professional mobility experiences for live art workers highlights the relevance of cross-border cultural mobility and its impact on the professional and creative development of artists and culture professionals. Undertaking a mobility experience helps participants embrace diversity and test approaches outside a familiar environment.

In order to maximise the experience, mobility needs intermediaries who facilitate participants’ experiences in an inclusive and accessible way. These intermediaries provide access to new professionals, stakeholders and markets, taking care of mitigating possible cultural, social and physical barriers. This handbook aims at raising questions in order to enhance the quality and success of the mobility experiences, see them from a different angle and contributing to sustainable, accessible and inclusive practices.

#MeToo in the Arts: From call-outs to structural change

In light of developments since 2017, when the #MeToo movement rose to global prominence, the SHIFT – Shared Initiatives for Training partners (nine European cultural networks and platforms) made a common decision to focus on sexual harassment and power abuse in the European art world. Produced by IETM, On the Move – OTM, and FACE – Fresh Arts Coalition Europe, this publication is the culmination of the SHIFT project’s work on Gender and Power Relations.

Through research and main observations, this SHIFT publication starts by nuancing some preconceptions about the status quo of Gender and Power Relations in the arts while taking into consideration the diversity of contexts in Europe. Using a transnational, cross-border approach, the publication also puts forward recommendations and solution-oriented strategies for the arts sector in general – and European cultural networks in particular – for combating sexual harassment and power abuse, and creating equitable and safe professional environments for art workers. It further includes concise ‘stories of change’ – case studies derived from interviews which instigated a structural process of change in a given context.

The publication is complemented by the SHIFT Annotated Bibliography on Gender and Power Relations. For more publications supported by the ERASMUS+ funded project SHIFT see the SHIFT project page.

The publication is available in Albanian thanks to the collaboration with the FemArt Festival in Kosovo.

You can also watch a video (from 12:36) of the presentation by Katie Kheriji-Watts, Coordinator, Research and Publications at On the Move, during the Conference Burning Issues - Performing Arts and Equity held in Berlin on 7-8 May 2022.

SHIFT Annotated Bibliography on Gender and Power Relations

This publication is part of the gender and power-relations package which encompasses a lot of complex issues, both in society and more specifically in the cultural sector, hence the common decision to focus on sexual harassment in the culture and creative sectors. The global movement of #METOO, which started in 2017, increased awareness and empowered employees and professionals across the globe to report sexual harassment and other inequalities in the workplace. #METOO brought to the surface the vulnerability and a lack of effective protection mechanisms of anyone facing power abuse, regardless of age, class and gender.

A large number of resources exist on the issue even if they can be unequal in terms of contents, accessibility and number depending on the covered countries, sub-sectors and languages in focus.

This annotated bibliography, researched and coordinated under FACE - Fresh Arts Coalition Europe, does not claim to be fully comprehensive on the subject but tries to introduce on specific entries (policies, campaigns, codes of conduct etc.) accessible online resources that can help end-users to find documents, tools, inspiration, etc. and to design further their own ways to act on the subject depending on their needs and the context they are evolving. The focus is mostly on Europe with a few international references.

This annotated bibliography has been created by FACE, IETM and On the Move and the SHIFT partner networks.
