Are you an artist from Bradford, UK or an international artist seeking to learn how to take your work to global audiences and make new creative connections with artists worldwide?

Following Bradford Producing Hub’s appointment as Bradford 2025’s Cultural Capacity Partner earlier this year, this first partnership programme has been designed to connect artists from Bradford and across the world in an exciting online international exchange programme.

The programme will take place from December 2023 - March 2024 and consist of:

7x online workshop-style sessions each lasting around 2 hours.

Opportunities for online ‘Go & Sees’ where artists will watch a range of online international performance or digital work followed by group discussions.

2x ‘International Inspiration’ sessions with artists and companies currently immersed in extensive international work.

Bradford Producing Hub can provide bursaries and cover access costs to enable people to attend the programme, where needed. Bursaries are a contribution towards your time to help you attend when you might otherwise be working. You can claim up to £50 per session. Access costs are for additional costs you may have to pay to enable you to attend; things like disability support, sign language interpretation, childcare, or digital access support.

Deadline: 30 November 2023

More info and apply: https://bdproducinghub.co.uk/bph-x-bd25-international-artist-exchange/

Culture Utopias is the title of a residency that aims to create a collaborative and courageous space of action in which artists, cultural managers, activists and citizens from Romania, Poland and Ukraine can reflect on the challenges Europe has faced in the last decade. Offered jointly by the Gabriela Tudor Foundation (Bucharest), the Wroclaw Institute of Culture (Wroclaw) and proto produkciia (Kiev), the dual residency is first and foremost a safe space for exchange and collaboration. Together the partners proceed from the assumption that change begins in interaction.

The residency is divided into two three-week slots. The stay in Bucharest (I. Part) will focus on formulating a jointly developed project concept. The stay in Wroclaw (II. Part) will consist of testing the created ideas, concepts and scenarios.

Residency stages:

Bucharest, 3-30 July 2024 – 1st residency slot: The Bucharest residency will take place at AREAL | space for choreographic development, and will be mentored by Cosmin Manolescu, a senior cultural expert and dance artist with over 20 years of experience in initiating and developing artistic residencies in Romania and abroad.

Wroclaw, 15 August – 15 September 2024 – 2nd residency slot: The residency in Wroclaw will take place at the premises of the Wroclaw Institute of Culture (Barbara, Klub pod Kolumnami and Apartamenty na Solnym) and will be mentored by curator Paulina Brelinska-Garsztka experienced in projects, processes, and interdisciplinary approaches to culture based on artistic research.

What’s Next?, Ukraine, 2024 – final presentation: The results of the developed final project will be presented at the end of the final residency in Wroclaw, and, if the situation allows, at the final event of the What’s Next? project in Ukraine in November 2024.

The residency covers:

Train/bus transportation from participants’ cities to Bucharest, Wroclaw and Ukraine.

Accommodation in a shared rented apartment with your own room.

Salary of 1500 Euros (gross including per diems) for the residency in Bucharest.

A fee of 1000 Euro (gross including per diems) for a residency stay in Wroclaw.

Coverage of travel, accommodation and per diems for the presentation of results in Ukraine in November 2024 (to be confirmed, depending on the war situation).

In case of participation with a family member, an additional 500 Euros will be paid (to cover childcare, per diem or travel costs) for both stays.

Coaching and mentoring support in Bucharest and Wroclaw.

Safe space for discussions, meetings, rehearsals and research – 8 hours a day.

Local cultural and welfare programme (optional, depending on participants’ needs).

Deadline: 5 December 2023

More info and apply: https://dans.ro/whats-next-culture-utopias-residency-call/

For people residing or willing to implement a project further than 5001km from their place of residence, the travel grant is adapted to contribute to the cost of this long distance travel.

Daily allowance (also called ‘per diem’) to contribute to the accommodation and subsistence.

Various top-ups are available to support: disabled artists and cultural professionals; green travel; participation of Outermost Regions and Overseas Countries and Territories; visa fees; and artists and cultural professionals with young children below the age of 10.

[News] GuestRoomMaribor: ‘Constructing Care’ Residency (Slovenia)

GuestRoomMaribor invites artists and cultural professionals to apply for a research-based residency project in Maribor, Slovenia in summer 2024. The organisers welcome applications from candidates from different stages of their careers and backgrounds, with a focus on caregiving in visual arts, cultural theory, performance and curating. The residency period lasts 35 days (days of travel not included) and 5 residents will be hosted in the same period of time.

Constructing Care is a research-based residency project that aims to address the issues of the global care crisis from a local perspective. GuestRoomMaribor are inviting artists and cultural professionals to explore the local communities of care – affinity groups, day care institutions, personal carers’ unions as well as families involved in care – and to participate in knowledge production joining Maribor-based and Slovene artists, researchers, activists and socially engaged cultural practitioners. The residency also aims to foster cultural production – a new artistic work or curatorial plan. Long term plan (for 2025) is to create and present an exhibition devoted to the art of care based on the echoes of the residency Constructing Care.

Applications that address care as an intimate, personal and interpersonal act are welcome, as well as proposals that reflect on the political dimensions of the crisis of care: as the lack of appropriate state support, the link between care workers and migration, feminised labour in the care sphere, and the gender aspect of the invisible unpaid care work, etc. The project will enhance networking among the engaged artists and the local scene, to present the care community as a self-aware and empowered affinity group.

GuestRoomMaribor supports a collaborative environment through a tailored programme that encourages interdisciplinary exploration and engagement. The programme also offers professional development activities, including mentoring sessions, lectures with researchers and scholars.

Support:

Daily allowance: 25 EUR x 35 days = 875 EUR.

Travel allowance: 350 EUR or 700 EUR (350 EUR if you travel a distance under 600 km or 350 EUR + 350 EUR (top-up) if you travel a distance from 600 km to 5000 km.

Green top-up: no airplane both ways; for travel distance more than 600 km one way 350 EUR.

Visa allowance 80 EUR.

Family top-up for residents with one or more children below the age of 10 in the amount of 100 EUR.

Disability Support up to 75 EUR per day per participant with special needs linked to disability.

Free accommodation in separate units.

Curatorial and productional support.

GuestRoomMaribor will be accepting artists working in various fields of visual, performative and relational art - painting, drawing, photography, video art, graphic arts, digital arts, sculpture, site specific practices, relational aesthetics, community arts and performing arts, curation. Applicants must be legal residents of one of the Creative Europe countries beyond Slovenia.

Deadline: 10 October 2023

More info and apply: https://guestroommaribor.22slides.com/funded-residencies

[News] zusa: ‘What’s Next?’ Residencies for Artists and Cultural Professionals (Germany)

The cultural and civil society organisation zusa is organising residencies in Berlin in the framework of ‘What’s next?’ which will focus on two thematic axes:

Reflection and re-thinking on the idea of solidarity in Europe.

Mental well-being of artists and cultural professionals.

Residents will be encouraged to explore possible interrelations between those two seemingly distant topics. The residencies will be dedicated to experimenting, collaborating, exchanging, and exploring what kind of micro-utopian interaction art may propose in reaching solidarity. How does solidarity look in culture and what is its future in the face of continuing crises affecting the world? Can supporting the mental well-being of arts professionals become a driving force for the future of solidarity in culture?

Six artists and one curator or researcher or culture manager will be invited to spend time in Berlin between February and April 2024. Since not all the artists will meet during the residency, the curator / researcher / culture manager will team up with an invited local curator to interconnect and build a bridge between residencies.

During the residencies artists and cultural professionals will be asked to work on reflection diaries on the residency topic. The form for the diary will be a free choice – e.g. notes, sketches, short videoart, sound recording, etc. Other than that, the residents will be expected to prepare two small-scale meetings / events for a community of artists, culture managers, researchers and friends gathered around the AiR zusa programme, zusa and MitOst networks. The form of the meetings will be decided by residents together.

The residents will also be offered networking opportunities with the Berlin local culture scene, as well as external mental health support in the form of individual sessions and group circles which are a fixed component of the residency programme in the zusa organisation. There will be a possibility to slow down and take a break in nature in Brandeburg.

zusa offers residents:

A monthly stipend of 1000 EUR, accommodation (in an individual room) in Berlin and travel costs reimbursement up to 200 EUR.

A safer and supportive environment, where they can work without fear of discrimination or harassment.

Access to zusa’s network (Berlin & international);

There is the possibility to come to the residency with family. The resident will be responsible for covering the family members’ travel costs. The additional fellowship will be offered (1 child = 200 EUR, 2 children = 300 EUR).

The residency is dedicated to artists and cultural professionals based in European countries but with focus on Ukraine, Poland, Romania, Austria, and Germany. The priority will be given to the following disciplines: visual arts, architecture, music, literature. However, zusa allow for the possibility of extending the group to other disciplines.

Deadline: 26 October 2023

More info and apply: https://zusaculture.org/whats-next-residency-open-call-for-artists-and-cultural…

Les résidences Belgium’s LIBITUM offrent un environnement de travail et d’échanges, formels et informels, où les disciplines se rencontrent et où les regards artistiques se croisent.
[News] Casa d’Artistes: Residency for Contemporary Photography/Video Artists (Menorca)

‘Illa’ means ‘island’ in Catalan. The project (illa) is an artist residency for contemporary photography and/or video, which will take place at the Casa d’Artistes creation centre over 60 days from 2 April – 31 May 2024.

The centre is a space for artistic and cultural research and creation located in a rural environment outside the village of Es Mercadal (Menorca, Spain). It is a country house where various artists and cultural professionals live and work together for a set period of time. It is in use almost all year round and is managed by Es FAR Cultural, a non-profit organisation based in Menorca.

(illa) is aimed at visual artists from the western Mediterranean islands that are not part of Spain (Corsica, Sardinia, Sicily, the Tuscan archipelago, Phlegraean Islands, etc.). Its aim is to create works centred around the concept of insularity and the relationship between vulnerability and resilience, using their own experiences as either island natives or residents, as well as those obtained from Menorca, the host territory of the (illa) project.

The expected results of the residency are:

To produce new artworks offering new insights on the proposed themes.

To generate collective thought among the residents of the island and offer insights into the creative process, through events that are open to the public

To create a joint exhibition at the end of the residence.

The project is funded by the Creative Europe programme. For selected artists it will provide accommodation and workspaces, and a mobility grant:

Travel allowance: a fixed amount of either €350 or €700 per participant, depending on distance, that covers both outward and return journeys.

Daily allowance: a fixed amount of €25 per day per participant, to contribute towards everyday expenses (food, transport etc) during their stay. In total, each artist will receive €1500.

Top-ups: additional financial support to be paid to each artist based on their individual situation and needs.

Green top-up: fixed amount of €350 per participant who travels more than 600 km one-way, and who uses any mode of transport other than a plane to make their outward or return journey.

Visa expenses: fixed amount of €80 for expenses connected to visa applications.

Family top-up: fixed amount of €100 for participants who have at least one child below the age of 10, regardless of the number of children and of the child/children joining the residence project.

Disability support: up to €75 per day for participants whose disability affects their ability to carry out their mobile project. Exceptional cases to be discussed with the Casa d’Artistes team.

Deadline: 7 October 2023

More info and apply: https://casadartistes.esfarcultural.net/en/convocatoria-illa
